Natural Expression: Nature inspired interiors at Showcase

Stunning metallic detailing is the hallmark of A. Mullane Design who exhibits in 2019 as part of the Design Ireland area at Showcase in the RDS Main Hall. Founder, Aoife Mullane, is Inspired by the patterned pebbles and speckled eggs found at her seaside home and uses hand-dyeing and painting, screen printing and metal foiling to create her beautiful textiles which then become items such as cushions and lampshades. Handmade and unique, these designs add warmth and authenticity to any interior space.

Upstairs on the Balcony you’ll find another innovative Irish designer inspired by the natural world. Ceramicist Vivienne O’Malley, works from Dunhill Ecopark in Co. Waterford and will exhibit her stunning range of ceramic bowls, teasets and candle holders in 2019. With collections entitled Coral, Eroded, Tidal and Urchin, it’s obvious that Vivienne is inspired by the sea, yet this inspiration results in a subtle manifestation of the theme - in contemporary pieces that are, on the one hand, elegant and considered, and, on the other, playful and colourful.

With names such as Rain, Lichen, Hay and Ivy, the candles of Field Apothecary, handmade in Co. Down, are evocative of the Irish landscape and of the country’s temperamental weather. Let these soy wax scented candles transport you to an Irish meadow after rainfall or run your hand across ivy on a forgotten dry-stone wall. Sensuous and elegant this award-winning brand represents the scents of the Irish outdoors in a beautifully designed and packaged product.
