The Niki Collier offers a contemporary narrative in hand made felt. Her products are sought after for their strong design and flawless tailoring. All her pieces are made in luxury natural materials incorporating luxury local wool and other fibres using the ancient felting technique.
The accessory sets and wraps stand out in their minimalist approach to colour and sophisticated simplicity. Each range carries the message of urban decadence: natural luxury materials masterfully made. They all celebrate stories from our urban life.
The Ranges Niki is bringing to Showcase 19 are of historical significance. She has the first Irish Tweed in Handmade felt- made from the raw fibres of Irish Tweed cloth. Niki has adopted a unique technique that has allowed her to emulate that in handmade felt. The first ever Irish handmade felt is made by Niki Collier.
The collections cater for the slow fashion movement- craft and gift retailers with its two distinctive narratives: Contemporary Romance and Spartan Sophistication.
The contemporary romance accessory works with bold colour blocking and are developed in organic shapes. They incorporate local luxury wool, silk and cashmere fibres. The accessory sets include feminine hats, shawls, scarves, scarflets and wrist warmers in 4 colour combinations. Some of the work from the range has been curated for the British Museum Shop. The pieces are regularly exported to Milan and US.
The sophisticated spartan ranges offer minimalist colour palette in natural wool range. It is all about prioritised pragmatism: hats snoots, scarves, scarflets and wrist warmers. They stand out with their clean silhouette, hand moulded from undyed natural fibres. These appeal with their understated luxury appeal to young professionals.
Niki Collier’s Felt pieces- hats, scarves and gloves - seem to have much more fabulous friends than the humble artisan maker could claim for herself: Clinton (during a visit to Kilkenny on Nassau Street), an award winning Emmy producer, Dawn French, The Walls, designers, political figures.
This year Niki Collier was awarded a studio space at Marlay Park Courtyard- the new creative community in the heart of Dublin City. The studio is a destination for all those who are curious to see the magic of making handmade felt pieces.
