New for 2017 TextISLE

Following the phenomenal success of The Knitwear Project in 2016, we are now launching a new initiative for 2017, focusing on the creative potential of Irish textiles for use in
fashion and homeware.

TextISLE is a collaborative project between designers and producers to develop new products which will be unveiled at Showcase 2017. The line up of participants is second to none so you can expect a vibrant and and innovative presentation designed to excite and inspire.

Deirdre McQuillan

Deirdre McQuillan

Deirdre McQuillan is fashion editor of The Irish Times and a freelance feature writer and author with a long career writing on lifestyle subjects for magazines and newspapers in Ireland and abroad. She is the author of seven books including a style guide to Dublin and a history of the Aran sweater. A recipient of a lifetime achievement award by the Institute of Irish Designers in 2010. She contributes fashion features to the The Irish Times magazine every week, covers London and Paris fashion weeks for the paper twice a year and believes strongly in fostering, protecting and promoting Irish fashion creativity and craft in all its forms.

Angela O'Kelly

Angela O'Kelly

Angela O’Kelly is the head of Design for Body and Environment at the National College of Art and Design, Dublin, which encompasses fashion, textile and surface design, jewellery and metalwork. Angela has worked as a curator of contemporary design and craft since 2004, her main clients are the Design and Crafts Council of Ireland, Irish Design 2015, Kilkenny Arts Festival and local authorities. She also works as a consultant, educator, facilitator and practitioner.

Catherine Condell

Catherine Condell

Catherine Condell is one of the best know and successful Stylists in Ireland with over 35 years experience in the Irish fashion industry. Catherine worked for many years as a visual merchandiser and stylist at Irelands leading luxury department store, Brown Thomas. She is now an independent Stylist and Fashion Show producer and lists many leading Irish and International brands among her clients. 'Most of my work revolves around seasonal, high-fashion and global brands. With Showcase it is wonderful to focus on the World of beautiful, traditional, crafted Irish products that are now competing on the World stage.’

Professor Karen Fleming

Professor Karen Fleming

Professor Karen Fleming is Director of the Research Institute for Art and Design at Ulster University that was 1st for world-leading research in Northern Ireland and independently ranked 3rd in UK for Art & Design Research Intensity.

As Professor of Textiles at Ulster University, Fleming has been an exhibiting artist for 30 years and has curated international exhibitions including ‘Reinventing Linen’ Smithsonian Institute (2007) and the Biennale du Lin, Quebec (2011). She was a founding board member of Craft NI and is currently a Trustee of Museums and Galleries NI.

John Redmond

John Redmond

John Redmond has a 30 year history with the iconic Brown Thomas store. Having studied fashion and design, he started out, in his own words, as a very lowly and junior member of the display team. His career has blossomed with the store and he is now Creative Director for the Brown Thomas Group.

John and his colleagues lead an in-house creative team who regularly collaborate with artists and designers on window and store design. The team has been responsible for many award winning campaigns including the annual Marvel Room presentation, Season and Product launches and Create @ Brown Thomas which champions emerging Irish Designers. John has never forgotten his lowly start and is noted for embracing and encouraging young creative talent. 

Alanna Gallagher

Alanna Gallagher

Alanna Gallagher’s background is in fashion design and marketing. She studied in both Paris and Dublin and has a strong appreciation of all things aesthetic. With almost 25 years experience as a journalist, editor and style writer, she is currently writing for the Irish Times on home and design.
